Guelph Solar's Premium Solar Roof VIDEO

President Steve Dyck's conversation with Guelph Solar clients about their new premium solar roof in Guelph, Ontario. Guelph Solar installed panels on this home 7 years ago and it was time to re-roof. The homeowners explain the decision to replace the shingles on some slopes and to install metal roofing on the slopes where the solar panels are mounted (premium solar roof). Partly because of aesthetics, partly to deter critters, partly to enhance their home's long-term resale value.

Hi, it's Steve with Guelph Solar, and today I'm with Mark and Marilyn Sears. It's been seven years since we installed the system on their roof. How's it been performing?
Mark: "Great, it's been wonderful. Our income is exactly what we projected from your estimates, and it's been consistent since the system was new. Over seven years, we've received about the same amount of income that we initially paid for the system. So now we're at the point where we have to start paying income tax on the earnings!"
Recently, we installed a solar premium roof on their home. It was time to re-shingle, and Mark and Marilyn made the decision to have shingles on part of the roof, while we installed a metal roof underneath the solar panels with a 40-year warranty. I asked them why they chose this combination.
Mark: "When we were looking at it, we saw both possibilities. We thought the shingles' aesthetic look fit in well with the neighborhood. The ridges are lined with steel, and then the shingles go over the top, so it blends in nicely. From an overall perspective, it looks great with both the shingles and the steel under the panels."
Marilyn: "I like how the panels fit lower on the roof now—you can't even tell there are solar panels from the front of the house. The slope of our roof isn't that steep, so unless you're looking closely, you wouldn’t notice the metal roof or the solar panels at all. Plus, with the panels being closer to the roof, there won’t be any critters making homes underneath."
Mark: "We've told people in the neighborhood and even some friends about our experience, and they've taken advantage of the opportunity to get solar panels too. It's definitely becoming a trend."
Marilyn: "The other thing is, it's an investment in the environment. That was one of our biggest goals—doing something that's good for the planet."
Steve: "I want to thank you so much for your years of trust and confidence in Guelph Solar. I'm thrilled that everything has worked out so well and that the system is performing as we intended. It's great to be part of a local energy solution that addresses climate change, powers our homes, and contributes to our economy. We sure want solar to be a good news story for everyone."
