A short video about what happens at Guelph Solar after the snow flies.

My name is Mitch with Guelph Solar, and I'm here to answer one of our most frequently asked questions: What happens during the winter months—do we shut down or do we continue our installs?

The short answer is, yes, we keep working. The sun is powerful enough to melt snow and dry the roof pretty efficiently. We purposely place solar panels in the most exposed areas on your roof, so those sections will dry quicker than others. This keeps our work area dry and safe, allowing us to continue installations year-round.

In southern Ontario, heavy snow is sometimes unavoidable. However, we stay on top of the forecast and occasionally come by to brush off your roof a day or even a week before we know the snow will melt. That way, we can get right back to work without delays.

We always prioritize safety—our team stays tied in at all times and wears the necessary PPE. Whether it’s winter or summer, our safety protocols remain the same. We do take extra precautions in winter because snow can be slippery, but we ensure the roofs are dry before we begin working.

And that’s how we’re able to stay open and continue installations 12 months of the year.
